"Dream World"
Dream World
by Norman MacCaig
In your loving arms there lie
Serious field and fickle sky;
Syllables of your breath compose
Artic wind and desert rose;
And fidgiting Atlantics sigh
To sleep beneath your lullaby.
Let the presaging planets weep.
No nightmares from their mirrors creep
To touch you with their breath and show
The eyes of innocence how to know
The world you dandle into sleep
Rocks your cradle six feet deep.
